After an all-state performance at Lutheran High School in Denver, Colorado, Domonic Martinez came to Western in 1993. Right away, Martinez became the heart and soul of the Mountaineer men's basketball team.
Â
In fact, only two players in Western history have played more games in the Mountaineer Crimson & Slate. Martinez made appearances in 111 games, winning a total of 62 or 55.9 percent.
Â
As a junior, Martinez was named an All-RMAC Honorable Mention selection and as a senior was named to the RMAC West Division Second Team.
Â
Martinez would end his career with the fourth most field goals in school history with 1,043, and the fifth most field goals made with 485.
Â
"He is one of the few players I have ever coached who made players around him not only better but tougher as well," Domonic's former coach at Western, Bob Hofman said. "The ultimate teammate, he not only competed for his teammates, he went to war for them."
Â
Now the Dean of Students at North Middle School in Aurora, Colorado, Domonic lives with his wife Marcela Yanez-Martinez and has two children, Dominic and Matthew.
