Members of the Western Colorado athletic department donated money to purchase 150 lunches for essential and frontline workers in the Gunnison community during the COVID-19 pandemic - organized and led by WCU women's basketball coach Lora Westling. Read more about it here.

Western Colorado student-athletes volunteered at the "Gunnison Youth Olympics" hosted by WCU Exercise and Sport Science students. The Mountaineers assisted in running the events at the Community Center, giving youth an opportunity to compete in friendly competition. "Your athletes really got into the olympics theme which made the night more fun for the kiddos!" - Event CoordinatorÂ

With the holidays in full swing, the Western Colorado Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) went to the Senior Center and made holiday decorations with the residents.Â

The Western Colorado men's and women's track and field program volunteered at the Gunnison Elementary School in preparation for Halloween.Â
The Mountaineers spent their time with the elementary schoolers doing a variety of services, including pumpkin carving, playing games, and pumpkin bowling. Concluding their service at the Family Fun Night at the Gunnison Community Center.Â




Oct. 6, 2019
Multiple student-athletes from Western Colorado University spent their day volunteering at the 2019 Day of Service on October 6. Mountaineers from each NCAA sport represented Western Colorado in the community working on various projects. These projects included working with non-profits such as Gunnison Valley Mentors, Gunnison Trails, Gunnison Valley Animal Welfare League, Mountain Roots, and Cochetopa Farms.Â

Sept. 18, 2019
The Western Colorado men's basketball, women's basketball and wrestling teams volunteered for the 2019 Gunnison Police Department Good Neighbor Program - the 15th year the GPD has done the event.Â
The GPD Good Neighbor Program is a partnership with the community directed toward the goal of helping new residents better understand local ordinances, decrease disturbing the peace complaints and minimize underage consumption of alcohol. Citizens are encouraged to introduce themselves to their neighbors, exchange names and talk to each other when problems arise. The Gunnison Police Department is available to assist residents whose parties get out of hand to disperse guests before an official complaint is made.

The Western Colorado women's soccer team welcomed kids at Gunnison elementary for their first day of school.
