Alisha Williams was a runner at Western from 2000-05. Williams is one of the most decorated Western student-athletes and is widely regarded as one of the top women's athletes in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and NCAA Division II.
The distance runner dazzled spectators and earned All-American honors and all-conference honors four times in cross country. Williams also helped lead the Mountaineer women's cross country team to two NCAA Division II National Championships in 2001 and 2002.
"Of all the women athletes I coached throughout the years, only Elva Dryer was more honored than Alisha," former Western track and field and cross country head coach Duane Vandenbusche said in his nomination letter. "Alisha was in my mind, the second greatest woman athlete in all sports in the history of Western State College."
Not just a cross country runner, Williams was a six-time national champion on the track. Williams earned two national championships in the indoor mile, two in the outdoor 1,500 meters and two in the outdoor 3,000 meters. Williams still holds the school record for the fastest women's 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:16.42.
Williams also proved she could run with the best in the country after competing on the U.S. World Junior Cross Country Team and running in the U.S. Olympic Trials.
