Seven student-athletes, coaches and administrators have distinguished themselves with a feature in Sports Illustrated's weekly "Faces in the Crowd" section.

Jan. 19, 1959 - Herbert Dorricott
Herbert Dorricott, 45, assistant to the president of Western State College in Colorado, was elected president of National Collegiate Athletic Assn., youngest in history of the group.
April 17, 1989 - Bonnie Weiskopf
Weiskopf, a junior at Western State College of Colorado, won the 10-km freestyle race and anchored the winning 3 X 5-km relay team to lead the Mountaineers to the women's title at the U.S. collegiate Nordic skiing championships.
July 7, 1995 - Elva Dryer
Martinez-Dryer, a junior runner at Western State College of Colorado, earned her fifth national women's crown when she won the Division II 3,000-meter title for the third consecutive year. She also was the division's cross-country champion in 1993 and '94.

Dec. 17, 2007 - Jennifer Michel
Michel, 29, the men's and women's cross-country coach at Western State, is the first woman to be named national men's coach of the year in any NCAA division. In her first year as head coach, she led the Mountaineers to a North Central Region title and second place at the Division II championship.
Oct. 19, 2009 - Tyler Daniels
Daniels, a sophomore quarterback at Western State, threw the winning touchdown with 12 seconds left in a 31--27 win over Fort Lewis, his sixth straight start without an interception. He passed for 202 yards and four touchdowns and rushed for 119 yards. The week before, he accounted for 481 of the offense's 560 yards in a 38--19 win over Western New Mexico.
Feb. 21, 2011 - Donovan McMahill
McMahill, a senior at Western State College, won his match in the 197-pound class by a pin in the first period against Fort Hays State to extend his undefeated streak to 42 matches. The defending D-II national champion, he is ranked No. 1 at his weight and has led the Mountaineers to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference title the past two years.

April 23, 2012 - Tyler Pennel
Pennel, a senior at Western State College, ran an NCAA season-best 28:23.54 in the 10,000-meters at the Stanford Invitational for the fifth fastest time in the world so far this year. His performance, nearly 16 seconds ahead of the No. 2 collegiate time, met the Olympic Trials B standard and earned him recognition from the Bowerman Award, given to the NCAA's top track and field athlete of the year. Pennel was the D-II cross-country runner-up last fall to help the Mountaineers to the national title.
