Mountaineer Trio Voted 1st-Team RMAC All-Academic

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.  The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference on Wednesday afternoon released its 2023-24 RMAC Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field All-Academic teams, listing Western Colorado's Kaiya Firor, Landon Gary and Leah Taylor as first-team honorees.

Along with the three first-team selections, 21 women and 32 men from the Mountaineer indoor track program earned all-academic Honor Roll inclusion.

First-team all-academic honors are voted on by the league's sports information directors and nominations require a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.500 as well as having completed at least two consecutive semesters at their current institution.

Taylor earned two All-America honors at the 2024 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championship meet, placing sixth in the women's mile and anchoring the fourth-place distance medley relay.

An All-South-Central Region miler and two-time first-team all-conference performer this season, Taylor set a facility record in winning the 3,000-meter run at the RMAC championship meet in Spearfish, S.D., where she also anchored the winning DMR for Western.

Firor was on the fourth-place DMR at nationals to earn All-America status, and her sixth place in the 400-meter dash at the RMAC meet earned a second-team all-conference honor.

Gary ran the second leg of the men's DMR at nationals, earning second-team All-America honors with the foursome's ninth-place finish. An all-region DMR teammate, Gary placed fifth in the men's 400m at the RMAC meet to pick up second-team all-conference honors and anchored the fifth-place 4x400 relay at the meet.

Honor roll student-athletes must have a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.300 and must also have completed at least two consecutive semesters at their current institution.
