High School: Fahrney comes to Western Colorado University from Battle Mountain High School where he was a two sport athlete, running cross country and track. In high school, Degren ran a personal best of 15:56 for 5,000-meters in cross country. He is the son of Travis and Sara Deagen, and brother to Kaela.
