T/F Conclude Day Two of the Maverick Invite with Multiple Winners and Career-Best Marks and Times

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.  The Western Colorado Mountaineers track and field team wrapped up day two of the Maverick Invite with an impressive slate of top finishes to close out the competition.

The Mountaineers wasted no time getting on the board, opening the meet with a victory in the women's 4x100-meter relay as the squad raced to a winning time of 47.48 seconds. The men's 4x100 relay followed suit, matching the women's performance with a first-place finish of their own in 41.65 seconds.

Peyton Weiss delivered a standout performance in the women's 1,500 meters, placing second with a career-best time of 4:27.52. Teammate Emma Kjellsen was close behind, finishing third in 4:31.00. Weiss continued her strong day in the 800 meters, adding a third-place finish with a time of 2:16.78. On the men's side of the 1,500 meters, Tyler Nord also turned in a career-best effort, taking second in 3:46.55.

Jack Boyt added a runner-up finish for Western in the 400 meters, clocking a personal-best 49.14 seconds.

Sprint events proved to be a strength for the Mountaineers, highlighted by Myia Dantzler's first-place finish in the women's 100 meters with a blazing 11.74 seconds. Arvell Amos mirrored that success on the men's side, claiming gold in the 100 meters with a time of 10.96 seconds, while Cole Newman added a third-place finish in 11.15 seconds. Amos also secured a second-place finish in the 200 meters (22.14), followed closely by Jeffery Poku in third (22.25) and Vonn Borjas in 22.48 seconds.

In the field events, Katrina Trahan led the way with a first-place throw in the women's discus, reaching 43.93 meters (144-2). Aiden Ellebracht claimed gold in the men's high jump with a career-best clearance of 2.01 meters (6-7.25), while Brandon Kolb finished second at 1.95 meters (6-4.75).

Johanna Brown recorded a solid mark of 12.63 meters (41-5.25) in the women's shot put as she claimed second place

Brayden Jones highlighted the vertical events with a first-place finish in the men's pole vault, clearing 4.86 meters (15-11.25). On the women's side, Mazzy Hatch took second with a height of 3.30 meters (10-10). Emma Alford added another podium finish in the women's triple jump, placing second with a leap of 11.03 meters (36-2.25). The Mountaineers dominated the men's triple jump, going one-two as Shawn Carter won the event with a mark of 14.04 meters (46-0.75) and Will Pringle followed in second at 12.92 meters (42-4.75).

Up Next: The Mountaineers are back in action on April 16, where they will travel to California for the Bryan Clay Invitational and the ULV Leopard Invitational.
