GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. The Mountaineer track and field team is set for a strong showing this weekend as they head to Colorado Mesa University for their next meet.
The team is coming off an impressive outing in Fort Collins, where several athletes delivered standout performances and career-best marks.
Brayden Jones highlighted the meet with a personal best in the pole vault, and he'll look to carry that momentum into this weekend's competition.
On the men's side,
Oliver Diaz is one to watch in both the 800 and 1,500-meter runs, bringing consistency and competitiveness to the middle-distance events.
Will Stone also returns to action after an impressive performance last weekend, where he placed seventh in the 400-meter hurdles with a career-best time of 54.45 seconds. He is set to compete in both the 400-meter dash and the hurdles once again.
The women's team continues to build momentum after a series of strong performances.
Johanna Brown delivered career-best marks in both the hammer throw and shot put, showcasing her strength in the field events.
Myia Dantzler also stood out, earning a second-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.48 seconds, and she'll aim to build on that success.
Allison Beasley is expected to make an impact in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, while
Gaby Huggins will look to contribute in multiple events, competing in the long jump before joining the 4x100-meter relay team on the track.
The Mountaineers will begin competition Thursday at 11 a.m., looking to continue their strong early-season form.
