Western Colorado host Western Colorado Alumni Open

GUNNISON, Colo. Western Colorado will look to finish out the regular season of the indoor track and field season on a strong note on Friday, when they host the Western Colorado Alumni Open. The Mountaineers have been impressive this season, recording personal best and national qualifying marks in every meet they have competed.
Western Colorado Alumni Open (Athletes to look out for)
- The women's team has been dominant all season, leading to them being ranked 17th in the nation.
- The pole vaulters have been on fire the last three weeks, recording personal best marks in each meet they competed. Choying O'Brien is the top women's pole vaulter, holding the school record with a mark of 3.75m. Lauren Smith has also been impressive this season entering with a mark of 3.76m, while Laura Brignoli is right behind her with a mark of 3.54m.
- Mikayla Hutchison and Shynesti Johnson will be representing the Mountaineers in the 60 and 200 meter. Johnson has the better time out of the two with a time of 7.76 seconds, followed by Hutchison time of 7.87. For the 200m it is reversed, Hutchison posting the better time of 25.64 and Johnson having a time of 26.77.
- Myia Dantzler will also be competing in the 200m, with the best time out her teammates entering with a time of 25.33.
- Alison Beasley will be representing the Mountaineers in the one mile with a time of 4:49.54. The final runner to look out for is Mackenzie Burt in the 400m, who enters with a mark of 56.88.
- For the field team, Krystal Wortham will be the field athlete to look out for in the weight throw, posting a mark of 16.73m.
- Western's men will have several athletes competing in the 3000m on Friday.
- Cade Michael has the best time (8:16.35) out of all his fellow teammates, the next best being; John Houdeshell (8:23.70), Ryan Outler (8:26.62), Aidan Scott (8:32.59) and Jackson Schwartz (8:37.74).
- Outler and Scott will also be competing in the 800m, Outler has the better time of 1:53.28, while Scott enters with a time of 1:58.00.
- The final runner to keep an eye on is Jacob Stroup in the 60m hurdle, entering with a time of 8.33.
- Malcom Wesley leads the way for the jumpers, competing in the long jump with a leaping distance of 7.28m. Ismael Dembele will compete with Wesley with a leaping distance of 6.84m. Dembele will also compete in the triple jump, entering with a mark of 14.56m.
- Last and certainly not least, Karter Evans will compete in the shot put and weight throw, posting a mark of 14.04m in the shot put and 15.31m in the weight throw.
ON THE TRACK & FIELD NEXT
Western will return home for the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Champions which will be held in the Mountaineer Field House starting on Friday, Feb. 25.
