COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) released the 2018-19 Male and Female Scholar-Athletes of the Year on Tuesday. Western Colorado University basketball players,
Brady Subart and
Chandler Willis were both selected to the Scholar-Athlete Honorable Mention team.

To be eligible for consideration, individuals must compete in one of the conference sponsored sports, carry at least a 3.30 grade-point average (GPA), be of good character and must have participated at the active member institution for two or more seasons in at least one sport. True freshmen and first-year transfers are not eligible for this award.

Willis played in all 27 games this past season, helping Western women's basketball to 16 overall wins and 12 conference wins, which ties for the second-most RMAC wins in a season for the Mountaineers. The 16 overall wins is tied for the fifth most in program history.

Western women's basketball made the RMAC Tournament for just the fifth time in program history this past season.

Willis was second on the team in made three-pointers (40), three-point field goal percentage (.392), defensive rebounds (123) and total rebounds (160). The senior guard scored a career-high 25 points against Colorado Christian University on Feb. 16.

Academically, the psychology major maintained a 3.98 grade-point average. Willis was also named an RMAC All-Academic Honor Roll selection and the Top Female Academic Performer at the WESPY Awards.

Subart ended his men's basketball career leading the conference and ranking 27
th in Division II with a 42.8 three-point shooting percentage this past season. Subart led the team in assists (93), points (426), and three-point field goals (71). All three of those figures ranked in the top-10 among players in the conference. He also led the tam with 138 made field goals and 909 minutes played.

Subart was named an RMAC Honorable Mention selection this past year and scored 1,199 career points in 100 games played as a Mountaineer. The Western graduate shot 40 percent from beyond the arc for his career and 44.4 percent from the field.

An economics and business administration major, Subart held a 3.91 GPA. He was named an RMAC All-Academic selection three times, including two First Team selections.

Black Hills State University's (BHSU) Jonah Theisen and Colorado School of Mines' Megan Wenham were named the 2018-19 Male and Female Scholar-Athletes of the Year, respectively.
