GOLDEN, Colo. --- Western Colorado track and field concluded their first meet of the 2019-20 season as they finished competition Friday afternoon at the Colorado Mines Alumni Classic and Multi.

Since the Mountaineers are set to host the Western Colorado Open on Saturday, the team only sent the pole-vaulters and multis to compete in Golden. As the rest of the team will compete in Mountaineer Field House on Saturday, starting at 11 a.m.

In the men's pole-vault
Kyle Downey and
Collin Scheuring were both able to record a 4.62m (15' 1.75") mark earning Downey fifth place overall, as Sheuring finished sixth.

On the women's side, both Mountaineers finished in the top ten in the pole-vault, as
Choying O'Brien finished tied for seventh and
Brooke Hoppe came in tied for ninth. O'Brien vaulted 3.51m (11' 6.25") and Hoppe cleared a height of 3.21m (10' 6.25").

In the heptathlon, the Western Colorado men placed 10
th, 11
th, and 12
th overall.
Graham Butcher led the Mountaineers as he finished with 4,621 points, as
Hayden Ell finished closely behind with 4,435 points and
Wyatt Ewer earing 4,379 points.

For the Mountaineer women competing in the pentathlon, both
Sequoia Kellogg and
Rylee Haynes competed in their first ever pentathlon. Kellogg finished with 2,841 point earning herself a 19
th place finish, as Haynes finished three spots back in 22
nd place after recording 2,661 points.
