GUNNISON, Colo. All fifteen institutions from the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference will descend upon Mountaineer Field House on February 27-28, closing the month with the 2026 RMAC Indoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Western Colorado University.
The two-day meet begins at 10 a.m. on both Friday and Saturday, the early bird participants in the men's heptathlon starting each day.
Mountaineers are seeded within the podium steps in nearly every event, but there are several who come into the meet looking to climb to the top of the podium.
Myia Dantzler enters Friday at the No. 3 seed in the women's 60-meter dash with an entry time of 7.59 seconds, just a tenth off of the school record she set last season.
Then on Saturday Dantzler will try to improve upon her recent school record in the 200, 24.51, as she enters the preliminary heats as the No. 2 seed.
In another sprint event,
Joseph Purbrick has the fourth fastest indoor time in Western history in the men's 60 hurdles, with a time – 8.16 seconds – that will be the second seed in Friday afternoon preliminary heats.
The oval in the Field House will see Mountaineers burning up the track in the distance events, including the women's distance medley relay.
The quartet of
Emma Kjellsen,
Alissa Rall,
Peyton Weiss and
Lauren Willson is the third seed in the event with a time of 11 minutes, 36.51 seconds (altitude adjusted) that also ranks seventh on the NCAA Division II provisional performance list.
Weiss will toe the starting line of the women's mile with the third fastest entry time (4:46.24), an NCAA provisional time ranked 11th nationally.
The 3,000m run should promote points for Western, in both the men's and women's races.
Oliver Diaz (8:03.77) is seeded seventh in the men's race, while Willson (9:30.47) and Weiss (9:33.73) are seeded second and third in the women's race.
The Mountaineers have some podium-chasers in field events, beginning with the top seed in the men's high jump,
Brandon Kolb, whose best height of 2.10-meters (6 feet-10.75 inches) is 17th nationally and fourth all-time in Western's indoor men's history.
Kyla Wolitzky is chasing the title in the women's high jump, her season best of 1.64m (5-4.5) is just 0.06m from the top seed in the entries.
Men's pole vault is likely to add podium points to Western's team total.
Brayden Jones opens Friday's field events schedule as the No. 3 seed, clearing a season-best height of 4.82m (15-9.75) that is an NCAA provisional mark.
The meet will be broadcast on the RMAC Pay-per-View network, with options to follow five different cameras – track/oval; high jump; throws; pole vault; horizontal jumps.
Purchasers of a PPV pass will be able to switch between events without extra cost.
