BOULDER, Colo. Western Colorado track & field got a pair of first-place finishes at the Colorado Classic on Saturday, as
Myia Dantzler set a Mountaineer indoor record in the women's 200-meter dash midway through the event schedule then
Allison Beasley broke the tape in the women's 3,000m run.
In a meet filled with Division I athletes at the University of Colorado's Ford Practice Facility, Dantzler sprinted to a Mountaineer record in the 200 with a time of 24.44 seconds.
In the final individual event of the meet, Beasley raced to an 11-second victory in the 3,000, finishing in a time of 9 minutes, 55.26 seconds.
Western nearly picked up more first-place finishes, taking second in three events and third in another.
Lauren Willson finished as the runner-up in the women's mile with a time of 4:59.52, just after
Tyler Nord placed third in the men's mile with a time, 4:05.12, that ranks sixth all-time on Western's indoor performance list in the event.
The women's 5,000m run produced second- and fourth-place finishes from Mountaineer athletes as
Annaka Rudolph (17:57.91) and
Jayda Nix (18:03.70) claimed those spots.
Repeating those same placings in the men's 3,000 were
Oliver Diaz (8:17.56) and
Jan Thewes (8:22.51), with Diaz' time ranking 10th on Western's indoor performance list.
Western's other top-eight individual finish came in the women's 60m dash with
Madison Meinke placing seventh with a time of 7.87 seconds.
Saturday's final event on the schedule saw Western finishing second in the women's 4x400m relay as
Meghan Benkendorf, Dantzler,
Alissa Rall and
Peyton Weiss combined for a time of 4:00.85.

Western will participate in a pair of meets next weekend, with a distance group heading to Seattle for the Husky Classic on Feb. 13 while a large group of Mountaineers travels to Albuquerque, N.M., for the Feb. 13-14 Don Kirby Elite Invite.
