SEATTLE, Wash., ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. Western Colorado's track and field program will split and head into different directions this weekend, the distance group traveling to the Husky Classic at the University of Washington, and the other, larger group heading South to the Don Kirby Elite Indoor at the University of New Mexico.
Several of the runners from the distance group have NCAA provisional times, with those racing at the Classic attempting to better those times or achieve new provisionals.
Peyton Weiss and
Lauren Willson are seventh and 23rd on the provisional list in the women's mile, but at the Classic will race in the 3,000-meter run.
With a time that's 14th on the women's provisional 5,000m run listing,
Allison Beasley will instead hit the oval at the Classic in the 3,000.
Similarly, Western's
Oliver Diaz has the 15th fastest time on the 3,000 provisional list, but in Seattle will race in the 5,000, as will
Jan Thewes who has the 25th fastest provisional time in the 3,000.
Tyler Nord will attempt at the Classic to better his 27th fastest time in the 3,000, while teammate
John Houdeshell will try to earn his provisional in the event.
The Elite Indoor in New Mexico will feature Western's
Myia Dantzler in the 200m dash, an event in which she set the school record one week prior at the Colorado Classic. She ranks 31st on the provisional list in the event and will also compete in the 60m dash at the Elite, a race in which she is 33rd on the NCAA provisional list.
Two of Western's jumpers from the men's side of the team will look to improve their standings on the provisional list.
Brayden Jones is 42nd on the list in the pole vault, and
Shawn Carter is 40th in the triple jump.
