ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. Western Colorado's
Emma Kjellsen had a pair of fast results Saturday at the Don Kirby Elite Indoor, hosted by the University of New Mexico, as she earned an NCAA Division II provisional mark in one of the two races, while she and several others posted season-best results at the meet.
Kjellsen placed second in the women's mile with a time, 5 minutes, 0.75 seconds, that when adjusted for the track and altitude, translated to 4:54.20, a time that is now 20th on the DII provisional list in the mile.
She also posted a season best time of 2:14.88 in the 800-meter run to place 11th overall.
The women's mile, in addition to Kjellsen's stellar race, saw four other Mountaineers place within the top 15 with season-best times.
Jayda Nix (5:08.37) finished in fourth place, Natalie Kessler (5:10.68) was ninth,
Alissa Rall (5:12.43) was 12th, and
Annaka Rudolph (5:12.67) was 13th.
The men's mile saw two Mountaineers in the top five with season bests.
Gable Rial placed third in a time of 4:14.39, just ahead of Hoover Wyatt's fourth-place time of 4:15.17.
On just the straightaway of the Albuquerque Convention Center track,
Gaby Huggins sprinted to a season best time of 7.84 seconds in the women's 60m dash.
Kenyon Rook highlighted Western's day in the field events, placing 15th in the men's shot put with a season best toss of 15.41 meters (50 feet-6.75 inches).
