GUNNISON, Colo. Looking to improve marks for the following week's conference championship meet, Western Colorado track & field posted several new season bests Saturday afternoon in the Mountaineer Field House at the Last Chance RMAC Qualifier.
Among those was a first-place finish in the women's high jump by
Kyla Wolitzky matched by
Brandon Kolb in the men's high jump.
Wolitzky cleared a winning height of 1.64 meters (5 feet-4.5 inches) for a season best and a height that ranks 12th in the South Central Region.
Kolb took those accolades even higher, winning the men's event at 2.10m (6-10.5) to set a new personal best, set the top jump in the region, while clearing the provisional height for the national meet and move up to No. 17 on that NCAA Division II performance list.
His new PR also leaps up into a tie for fourth place all-time on Western's indoor top-10 list.
Also posting a provisional mark during the day was the quartet of
Nathan Lumaye,
Tyler Nord, Wyatt Hoover and
Giovonni Borjas in the men's distance medley relay. The four combined for a time of 10 minutes, 25.93 seconds, a time that translates with the altitude adjustment to 958.76, which is 29th nationally.
The women's mile produced a provo time as
Emma Kjellsen won the event with a 5:06.78, adjusted for altitude to 4:50.48 that ranks 21st on the national performance list in the event.
Joseph Purbrick won the 60-meter hurdles Saturday, sprinting to a PR of 812 seconds that ranks fourth on Western's indoor top-10 list and fourth on the South Central Region list.
A double winner from Western in the sprints was
Arvell Amos, who registered Western's top time this season in winning the 60m dash in 6.92 seconds, and also capture the title in the 200 with a winning time of 22.10 seconds.
And climbing up to 18th on the region list in the men's weight throw was
Brock Baumgart, who set a PR with his fourth-place throw of 16.07m (52-8.5).

Western will host the 2026 RMAC Indoor Track & Field Men's and Women's Championships on Feb. 27 and 28 in the Mountaineer Field House.
