AZUSA, Calif. The foursome of Jada Hynds, Kaiya Firor, Sakara Harrison and Myia Dantzler sprinted one circuit of the APU Cougar Stadium track Saturday to set a Western Colorado record in the women's 4x100-meter relay at the Franson Last Chance meet, combining for a fifth-place and Mountaineer record time of 45.99 seconds in the opening event of the day.
Harrison would later go on to win her heat of the women's 200m dash, earning an 11th-place overall finish with her time of 24.39 seconds.
In between the two events, Western's Kelia Portis would earn seventh place in the women's 400m hurdles with a time of 1 minute, 2.40 seconds.
Off the oval, the Mountaineers' Sammie Bretz placed sixth in the women's high jump, clearing a height of 1.66 meters (5 feet-5.25 inches).
The Mountaineers already had NCAA provisional marks in each of the three events.
The relay moves up from 37th to 32nd on the NCAA Division II performance list, while Harrison's season best of 24.25 ranks 60th, Portis' fastest time this spring of 1:02.25 ranks 49th, and Bretz' best performance (1.70m/5-7.00) ranks 28th nationally.
Late Saturday night in the final event of the Franson, Western's Jackson Schwartz registered a season best in the men's 3,000m steeplechase, crossing the finish in heat 1 with a time of 9:24.37.
The Mountaineers had two other athletes competing on Saturday as Ali Aldrich and Eireann Donohoe participated in the Loper Invitational at the University of Nebraska Kearney.
Aldrich hit a season-best mark in the women's hammer throw – 53.6m (175-10) – to earn a provisional mark in the event while placing seventh, and later in the day placed second in the shot put with a best heave of 14.65m (48-0.75).
Donohoe hit the runway of the women's triple jump, taking second place with a leap of 12.08m (39.7.5).
Aldrich has already posted a provisional mark in the shot put, entering the weekend of last chance meets across the country with the second-ranked toss of 15.77m (51-9).
Donohoe also entered the weekend simply trying to improve her season best in the triple jump, having already posted a leap of 12.37m (40-7), a mark that sits 15th nationally.
