GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. Not one…not two…but three Western Colorado program records were broken Sunday at the Maverick Invite and Multi, hosted by Colorado Mesa at the Maverick Track at the Bus Bergman Sports Complex.Â
Ali Aldrich not only secured a personal best in the shot put, but bested her own program record with a mark of 15.77 meters. With Sunday's throw she now sits first in the nation.Â
The women's 4x100 meter relay, consisting of Jada Hynds, Sakara Harrison, Kaiya Firor and Myia Dantzler, broke the school record with a first-place time of 46.17 seconds. After an approximate altitude conversion of 46.29, that time secures the relay a provisional mark and sits first in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.Â
Sakara Harrison broke the program's outdoor 200 meter record set just two weeks ago by Firor. In a dominant fashion, Harrison broke the tape in a time of 24.18 seconds. Not only did she secure a win and a provisional mark, but a spot in Western's record books. Â
In addition to rewriting the record books, the Mountaineers sported several wins and top three finishes:Â
- Logan Butterfield captured a win in the hammer throw with a toss of 55.73m. He now sits second all-time in the event at WesternÂ
- Talk about a sweep! Laura Brignoli, Nora Harsin, and Sophie Varela secured a 1-2-3 finish in the women's pole vault with marks of 3.76m, 3.31m, and 3.16m, respectivelyÂ
- Eireann Donohoe clenched another triple jump win on the season with a leap of 12.09mÂ
- Jeremy Killoy earned a win, and a PR, and moves up on the conference performance list of the men's 800 with a time of 1:53.10Â
- Jayda Nix won the steeplechase — in only her second try at the event — with a time of 11 minutes, 27.37 secondsÂ
- In the 100 hurdles, athletes Regan Thorne and Kelia Portis went 1-2 in 14.54 and 15.06, respectively. Thorne tied the facility record that she had set last year at this meetÂ
- Landon Gary, Connor Prost, Bryce Kizewski secured a 2-3-4 finish in the men's 400
- Garrett Watts, Jacob Tyburski, and Robert Scott swept the 10,000m field placing 1-2-3 with times of 31:29.87, 31:34.21, and 31:39.21 respectivelyÂ
And to put the cherry on top of the day, the Mountaineers emerged victorious against Colorado Mesa in the men's 4x400 relay with a time of 3:18.75. The squad consisted of Prost, Killoy, Bryce Kizewski, and Gary .
