Live Results
PUEBLO, Colo. Western Colorado's track & field program is back at Colorado State University Pueblo for the second consecutive weekend, this time competing in the Chuck Haering Open Invitational at the CSU Pueblo ThunderBowl on March 29-30.
The previous weekend the Mountaineers earned four NCAA provisional marks along with a pair of school records, all of whom will compete at the Haering Invite but some in different events.
Ali Aldrich hit the provisional mark in the women's shot put and will try to improve upon her throw of 14.23 meters (46 feet-8 inches) at the Haering. She'll also jump in the circle for the hammer throw.
Allison Beasley clocked a time in the women's 1,500-meter run that when converted with the altitude adjustment (4 minutes, 28.91 seconds) surpassed the provisional standard and ranks fourth nationally heading into the weekend. She will, however, compete at the Haering in only the 3,000m steeplechase, an event in which she earned an All-America accolade at the 2023 NCAA Division II outdoor championship meet.
Sammie Bretz is ranked fifth in the country after last weekend's first-place height of 1.70m (5-7) in the women's high jump, and like Aldrich will attempt to strengthen her ranking in the event at the Haering.
The fourth provisional came from
Eireann Donohoe in the women's triple jump, with a leap of 12.37m (40-7) that is second nationally. Donohoe will change things up at the Haering, joining Bretz in the high jump and also stepping into the blocks for the 100m high hurdles.
The hurdles event was one in which a Mountaineer set a school record last weekend, as
Regan Thorne posted a time of 14.20 seconds for a runner-up finish. Thorne will go at the hurdles again at the Haering, along with the 200m dash and, scheduled as, a member of the 4x100m relay.
The other school record came from
Kaiya Firor in the 200 (24.25). The altitude adjustment in the sprints cost her a provisional mark, which could come in a later meet as she is schedule to run in only the 4x400 relay at the Haering.
Many of Western's runners who competed at the 2024 NCAA indoor championship meet will jump back onto the track at the Haering including
Esteban Deniz,
Landon Gary,
John Houdeshell,
Simon Kelati,
Tyler Nord and
Eddie Siuda for the men, and
Emma Kjellsen,
Leah Taylor and
Peyton Weiss for the women.
LOOKING AHEAD
