GUNNISON, Colo. The Mountaineers will play at Paul Wright Gym on Friday, February 23 and Saturday, Feb. 24 for their final home games of the season. The team will face Regis Friday night for a 7 p.m. tip off, then will welcome the Mountain Lions of University Colorado Colorado Springs to Gunnison, Colo., Saturday night for a 3 p.m. start time.  

Fans are encouraged to wear black on Friday night as the basketball programs will have a blackout night.  During halftime Saturday, fans will be treated to a Lion Dance performance from Western Colorado's Asian Pacific Islander Club as they celebrate the Lunar New Year.  

Western Colorado has not faced Regis this season but are looking for their win against the Rangers in two seasons. The Mountaineers are looking for redemption against the Mountain Lions after a loss on the road earlier this season.  

WESTERN COLORADO HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND | 2023-24 Stats 

  • The Mountaineers (6-17, 4-14 RMAC) are coming off an 0-2 weekend on the road against Adams State and Fort Lewis. Alyssa Eckroth led the Mountaineers with 16 points against the Grizzlies, while Erika Lane registered 11 points. Against the Skyhawks, Ivey Schmidt, Lane and Eckroth all scored in double figures, but Schmidt led the offensive efforts with 17 points.  
  • Rachel Cockman leads the Mountaineers in points per game (16.7) followed by Jayda Maves (12.1) and Schmidt (10.5). Eckroth and Lane have both been keys to Western Colorado's offense as of late as the duo has combined for an average of 13.2 points per game. In conference play, Cockman has registered 15.5 points per game.  
  • Cockman also leads the Mountaineers defensive efforts with 7.8 rebounds. Brooklyn Seymour has tallied 5.2 rebounds per game with 5.7 rebounds per game in conference play.  

REGIS HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND | 2023-24 Stats  

  • The Rangers (20-5, 15-4 RMAC) come into this weekend tied with their travel partner, UCCS, atop the RMAC standings as both teams have a conference record of 15-4. Regis is riding a three-game winning streak after wins on the road last weekend against South Dakota Mines and Black Hills State. Sam Deem registered 18 points, while Morgan L. Smith also scored in double figures with 12 points. The Rangers came back after being outscored by the Yellow Jackets in the first half to win their third consecutive game. Josey Ryan scored 26 points and Smith registered a double double with 17 rebounds and 10 points.  
  • Regis ranks second in the conference in scoring with 73.2 points per game. They also rank third in the RMAC in field goal percentage (42%). Ryan leads the Rangers in points per game (15.1), while Athena Saragoza and Erin Fry have also registered double digit points this season.  
  • Smith leads Regis in rebounds per game with 7.5, while Deem has 7.0 rebounds per game. Ryan leads her team with 61 steals while Fry has registered 41 steals this season.  

UCCS HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND | 2023-24 Stats  

  • UCCS (18-7, 15-4 RMAC) is also looking to continue a seven-game winning streak dating back to Jan. 26. The Mountain Lions biggest victory in that span came against Colorado Christian in a 90-62 win. 
  • The Mountain Lions are scoring 68.2 points per game, while holding their opponents to 59.8 points per game. Maison White leads her team in scoring with 13.1 points per game, while Amyah Moore Allen has 12.1 points per game.  
  • Defensively, White leads the team in rebounds, with 8.7 boards per game and 132 defensive rebounds, while Moore Allen has registered 46 steals with season 18 blocks.  

UP NEXT 

The Mountaineers will play their final two games of the regular season on the road starting at Westminster University on Thursday, Feb. 29 for a 5 p.m. tip off. They will then go to Colorado Mesa on Sat., March 2 with a tip off slated for 5:30 p.m.
