GUNNISON, Colo. Head coach
Adam Jacobson on Friday announced that he was stepping down from the Western Colorado women's basketball program after four years at the helm.
Jacobson compiled an overall record of 50-60 and a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference mark of 39-45, but he transformed the program from its 6-21 record in his first season (2021-22) into an RMAC tournament-qualifying program in season's three and four.
The 2024-25 squad finished second in the RMAC regular season standings with a 15-5 mark, and the Mountaineers' 21-8 overall record was one win shy of the program's best mark, 22-7, in the 1986-87 season. That 2024-25 team earned a first-round home game in the RMAC postseason, the first home tournament game at Paul Wright Gym since consecutive appearances at home in 2020-21 and 2019-20.
Like that 2020-21 squad, the 2024-25 team won their quarterfinal matchup to advance to the semifinal round of the tournament, where both teams finished their seasons.
Again in 2025-26, Western (16-11, 14-6 RMAC) would make the RMAC tournament, its fourth-place finish earning another home tournament game, but this time the season ending on its home court.
A national search for the next head coach of the program will commence immediately.
