GOLDEN, Colo. The Mountaineers end day one of the Mines Winter Classic with the women's distance medley relay team earning a NCAA Division II provisional time. The first day also saw the women's pentathlon,where the Mountaineers had four representatives who all placed, and the first day of the men's heptathlon.

Nate Early represented the Mountaineers in the heptathlon and through the first four events Early sits in fourth place (2,568) behind a trio of Colorado State University athletes. He posted a time of 7.32 seconds in the 60-meters, followed by a mark of 6.04m (19 feet-9.75 inches) in the long jump. In the shot put, the freshman registered 11.18m (36-8.25), followed by registering a mark of 1.82m (5-11.20) in the high jump.

Eireann Donohoe placed sixth in the pentathlon for the Mountaineers. She started the day with a time of 9.63 in the 60m hurdles, then in the high jump hit a mark of 1.56m (5-1.25). In the shot-put Donohoe would throw 9.09m (29-10). In the final field event of the pentathlon, Donohoe would record a mark of 5.39m (17-8.25) in the long jump. Donohoe would run the 800m with a time of 2:43.55. Ainsley Rosenow placed 8th in the pentathlon for the Mountaineers followed by Lindsay Osterfelt in 11th and Ruby Patch came in 13th.

The Mountaineers Distance Medley Relay squad of Peyton Weiss, Leah Taylor, Emma Kjellsen and Kaiya Firor recorded an NCAA Division II Provisional time of 12:01.21
