GOLDEN, Colo. Western Colorado will head to Golden, Colo., to take on a top-15 opponent in No. 12 Colorado School of Mines on Friday, January 26, with tip-off scheduled for 5:30 p.m. The Mountaineers will then head to Denver, Colo., to face another Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference foe in Metropolitan State University of Denver on Saturday, Jan. 27, at 3:30 p.m.  

Western Colorado faced the Orediggers in December and did not make it an easy 61-56 victory for the then 10th ranked Mines team. The Mountaineers had a two-point advantage going into halftime and limited the Orediggers' offense to 28-percent shooting from the field. The Mountaineers are looking for their first win against the Roadrunners since 2021 after taking a 63-51 loss in Gunnison, Colo., last season.  

MOUNTAINEERS HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND | 2023-24 Stats 

  • Western Colorado (3-12, 1-9 RMAC) earned its first Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference win against New Mexico Highlands on Saturday night. Jayda Maves and Rachel Cockman led the Mountaineers with 19 points apiece, while Brooklyn Seymour led the team with nine rebounds in Western Colorado's victory. As a team, Western Colorado dominated the first quarter shooting 58% from the field. On Friday night, the Mountaineers took a 61-56 loss to CSU Pueblo, while shooting 35% from the field.  

  • The Mountaineers rank second in the conference in team defensive rebounds with 27.7 per game and sixth in combined team rebounds (36.3).  

  • Rachel Cockman continues to be a well-rounded player for the Mountaineers as she leads the team in points per game (16.7) and rebounds per game (8.3). Cockman also holds the Mountaineers' best field goal percentage (46%). The junior ranks fifth in the RMAC in rebounds per game and seventh in points per game.  

  • Jayda Maves has been consistent throughout her first season as a Mountaineer. She posted a season-high 19 points against the Cowgirls going 7-for-15 from the field and 5-for-10 from beyond the arc. She holds a 35-percent shooting from beyond the arc, which leads the Mountaineers and ranks seventh in the conference.  

  • Ivey Schmidt and Erika Lane have been contributors to the Mountaineers 57.2 points per game and 37-percent shooting from the field. Schmidt is Western Colorado's third leading scorer with 7.7 points per game, while Lane follows Schmidt with 5.9 points per game. Schmidt has also tallied a team-leading 15 steals on the season.  

OREDIGGERS HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND | 2023-24 Stats  

  • Mines (16-2, 11-1 RMAC) earned a 65-62 win over the Roadrunners in a midweek match up. Jenna Siebert played a key role in the win by hitting the game-winning shot for the Orediggers and then blocked the Roadrunners' next attempt on the other end. Ashley Steffeck registered her third double-double of the season (23 points and 12 rebounds).  

  • As a team, the Orediggers have averaged 73.6 points per game, which currently ranks second in the conference, while they rank seventh in the league with 40-percent shooting from the field. Colorado School of Mines is second in the conference in offensive rebounds per game (12.7) and seventh in the RMAC with an average of 35.9 rebounds per game.  

  • Ashley Steffeck leads the Orediggers with 19.4 points per game, which is tied for 1st in the conference. The red shirt senior also leads the Orediggers and ranks eighth in the conference with 6.9 rebounds per game. Steffeck has also registered 63 steals and 11 blocks throughout 18 games. Shelby Nichols has registered five rebounds per game with 21 steals this season, while Jenna Siebert has also been a defensive force for the Orediggers with 4.5 rebounds per game with 44 defensive rebounds.  

ROADRUNNERS HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND | 2023-24 Stats  

  • MSU Denver (3-13, 2-9) come into this weekend on a four-game losing streak after falling to Mines Tuesday. In Tuesday's game, Mikylah Espinosa registered a season-high 34-points including a 12-for-27 mark from the field. Brianna Sealy was the only other Roadrunner to score in double-digits with 10 points, she also recorded 11 rebounds for her first double-double of the season. The Roadrunners' average 53.4 points per game, while shooting 35% from the field.  

  • Mikylah Espinosa leads MSU Denver with 13.6 points per game, which ranks 13th in the conference, while she also ranks 11th in the conference in field goal percentage (37%). Brianna Sealy has also been an offensive force for her team, shooting 47- percent from the field while averaging 8.9 points per game.  

  • Sealy leads the Roadrunners defensively with 6.6 rebounds per game, which ranks 11th in the RMAC. She sits 12th in the conference with 4.9 defensive rebounds per game. Espinosa leads not only in offensive categories but in steals with 27 on the season.
