PUEBLO, Colo. Day two of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference outdoor track and field championship was one for the books for the Western Colorado track and field team. The Mountaineers had four All-Conference athletes and five runners advance to the finals.
Two All-Conference honors came from the men's 3000m steeplechase race, as
Cade Michael crossed the finish line second with a time of 9-minutes and 17.54 seconds. Right on his heels was
Jackson Schwartz in third-place (9:19.92).
Tyler Nelson had an amazing outing in the men's discus throw, achieving a personal best mark of 49.77m (163-03) on his way to a third-place finish and All-Conference honors. That mark catapults Nelson to fourth all-time.
The final Western athlete to earn All-Conference honors was
Kyle Yonker in the men's pole vault, clearing a height of 4.95m (16-02.75) which earned him third-place.
MOVING ON TO THE FINALS
- Five Mountaineers will be returning to the track tomorrow
- Amaya Booker and Mikayla Hutchison will be looking to join their teammates as All-Conference taking to the track in the women's 200m on Sunday, after they came in fourth (24.25) and fifth-place (24.92).
- In the men's 800m, Ryan Outler and Jeremy Killoy did just enough to make it to the finals, finishing in eighth (1:55.75) and ninth-place (1:56.23).
- Also headed to the finals, Kelia Portis will get set in the blocks in the women's 100m Hurdle, earning the right after coming in sixth-place in a personal best time of 14.85.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
- Andrew Jorgenson nearly made the podium in the men's vault, by finishing in fifth-place with a mark of 4.55m (14-11).
- Sakara Harrison ran a spectacular race in the women's 200m, recording a personal best time of 25.21, which puts her on the top-10 list at tenth all-time.
- Similar to Harrison, Colton Stice also ran well in the men's 800m, recording a personal best time of 1:57.23.
UP NEXT
The Mountaineers will wrap up the 2022 RMAC outdoor track and field championships tomorrow (May 1), starting at 9:30 a.m. for the women's triple jump. The running events will start at 11 a.m., with the women's 4x100m relay.
