ALLENDALE, Mich. --- Western Colorado finishes day two of three at the 2021 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Friday. Mountaineer
Taylor Stack became a National Champion in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase with his personal best performance of 8:41.72, as two individuals and a relay team qualified for Saturday's finals.

Taylor Stack led from the gun to open up a sizable lead early in the race, running completely alone for the full 3,000-meters to finish over 13 seconds ahead of second place. His time of 8:41.72 places him as the third fastest Mountaineer of All-Time in the event and the seventh ever Mountaineer to win a title in the event. The time of 8:41.72 also places him No. 13 All-Time in division two. Stack is scheduled to race in the men's 5,000-meter on Saturday at 1:40 p.m. (MST). Stack holds the No. 8 seedtime in the event at 13:48.52. The No.1 spot is held by Isaac Harding of Grand Valley with a time of 13:43.97. Stack will wear hip number seven.

Two Mountaineers qualified for the finals in the women's 800-meter as
Bailey Sharon locked down the No. 7 spot and
Jessica Cusick earned the No. 9 spot. In the prelims, Sharon clocked a time of 2:11.57 to finish second in her heat, as Cusick ran 2:12.21 to place fourth in her heat. The 800-meter finals is scheduled for 4:45 p.m. on Saturday.

Sharon was also a member of the finals qualifying women's 4x400-meter relay team consisting of
Kaiya Firor,
Mackenzie Burt,
Kelia Portis, and
Bailey Sharon. The team ran the sixth fastest seedtime in the prelims as they clocked a 3:46.53 to place third in their heat. The women's 4x400-meter relay final is scheduled to start at 6:05 p.m. (MST) on Saturday.

Saturday at 11:20 a.m. (MST) – Men's 1,500-meter finals – Jonathan Specht and Ryan Outler
Due to a limited field there are no prelims in the men's 1,500-meter. Specht holds the No. 6 best seedtime with his clocking of 3:43.85, as Outler sits No. 11 with his time of 3:45.33. The No. 1 seedtime is held by James Young of Academy of Art with a time of 3:37.72. Specht will wear hip number four and Outler will wear hip number 12.

Saturday at 1:40 p.m. (MST) – Men's 5,000-meter finals – Taylor Stack
Stack holds the No. 8 spot with his seedtime of 13:48.52. The No.1 spot is held by Isaac Harding of Grand Valley with a time of 13:43.97. Stack will wear hip number seven.

Saturday at 3:25 p.m. (MST) – Women's 1,500-meter finals – Jessica Cusick
Cusick finished fifth in her heat and will enter the finals with the fifth fastest prelim time. The finals for the women's 1,500-meter are scheduled for Saturday at 3:25 p.m. (MST). Tweleve athletes will are moving on to the finals.
