GUNNISON, Colo. – Western State Colorado University head men's basketball coach
Bradd Schafer and the Mountaineer coaching staff are excited to announce the additions of three athletes to their 2015 recruiting class Thursday.
Nate Wright 6'6" 215 F Junior St. Louis, MissouriNate Wright will join the Mountaineer program in the fall of 2015 from Utah State University Eastern in Price, Utah. Wright averaged eight points and seven rebounds per contest while shooting 56 percent from the field playing for the Golden Eagles. Against one of the premier junior college programs in the country in the College of Southern Idaho, Wright recorded a double-double with 10 points and 13 boards.
Wright is not only an exceptional basketball player but a tremendous student, carrying a 3.0 GPA. Wright will pursue a degree in broadcasting and communications at Western and will earn an associate degree this spring.
"We are extremely excited to add Nate to our program," Schafer said. "He brings athleticism, a high motor and the ability to play multiple positions. Nate is the total package for us. We wanted to add a rebounding presence and size. Nate brings all these characteristics plus being an outstanding person to have in the Gunnison community."
Tom Folsom 6'10" 240 F Junior Riverside, CaliforniaTom Folsom will join the Mountaineer program in the fall of 2015 from Riverside Community College in Riverside, California. Folsom will add immediate depth inside with the ability to change shots and to run the floor. Folsom scored 14 points and totaled six rebounds against Saddleback Community College, a team that went on to win the California Junior College Championship.
Folsom carries a 3.0 GPA coming into Western, and will earn an associate degree in May.
"We are very excited to add Tom to our program," Schafer said. "Tom's best basketball is in front of him and we are excited to watch him grow over the next few years. Tom has the ability to disrupt the game on both ends of the floor. Tom again will be an outstanding person to bring to the Gunnison community and he will be a presence for us immediately."
Ben Beauchamp 6'4" 190 G Sophomore Louisville, ColoradoBen Beauchamp will join the Mountaineer program in the fall of 2015 from Black Hills State University in Spearfish, South Dakota. Beauchamp appeared in 21 contests averaging 10 minutes per game while shooting 48 percent from the field, 41 percent from behind the arc and 88 percent from the foul line as a true freshman.
Beauchamp is eighth all-time in scoring for the Colorado Chaos Basketball Club with 1,557 career points. In high school, Beauchamp played at Monarch High School where he helped lead them to become one of the top Class 5A squads in all of Colorado. In his last two seasons at Monarch, Beauchamp averaged 17 points, seven boards and five assists per contest.
"Ben will add depth at all three guard positions," Schafer said. "He is a tremendous person and will bring leadership and work ethic to our program. We are extremely excited to have Ben for three years in Gunnison. Ben will transfer a 3.0 GPA into Western, and is another great piece to our program."
"Coach Richardson played a huge part in the recruitment process and I am extremely honored to have him on our staff at Western State Colorado University," Schafer said. "Our recruitment process is still going but we have added eight quality student-athletes to our family so far," Schafer said. "Wright, Folsom, and Beauchamp join James Willis (Lutheran HS), Brady Subart and Ray Beresford (Mountain Vista HS), Zach Madlom (San Antonio Reagan HS), and James Thomas (Trinidad Junior College) in the 2015 Western recruiting class.
