AZUSA, Calif., LA VERNE, Calif., GUNNISON, Colo. The Mountaineer track and field team is set for a busy and competitive weekend, splitting its squad between meets in California and Colorado. A select group will travel west to compete at the Bryan Clay Invitational and the ULV Invitational from April 16–18, while the rest of the team remains home for the Western Slope RMAC Last Chance meet.
Action begins Thursday with eight Mountaineers taking to the track.
Jan Thewes and
Wyatt Hoover will compete in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, while
Annaka Rudolph takes on the demanding 10,000-meter run.
Alissa Rall and
Nathan Lumaye are scheduled to race in the 800 meters, and
Kellen Reed,
Branden Davis, and
Aiden Wieskamp will line up in the 5,000 meters.
Competition continues Friday with a strong presence in the 800 meters, as
Gable Rial represents the men, while
Peyton Weiss and
Emma Kjellsen compete on the women's side. The 5,000 meters will feature
Tyler Nord,
Oliver Diaz,
John Houdeshell, and
Esteban Reyes for the men, along with
Lauren Willson for the women. Rall and Lumaye will also return to the track to compete in the 1,500 meters at La Verne.
Saturday wraps up the California meets with several Mountaineers in the 1,500 meters. Nord, Reyes, and Houdeshell will race on the men's side, while Weiss, Kjellsen, and Willson represent the women.
In the sprints,
Myia Dantzler will showcase her speed across multiple events, competing in the 200 meters at La Verne as well as both the 100- and 200-meter dashes at Bryan Clay.
Meanwhile, the remainder of the Mountaineers will compete at the Western Slope RMAC Last Chance meet.
Gaby Huggins will be one to watch in the long jump, while
Katrina Trahan looks to continue her strong outdoor season in the discus.
On the men's side,
Will Stone is a key competitor in the 400-meter hurdles, and
Shawn Carter will compete in both the long jump and triple jump.
The meet is set to begin Thursday, April 16 at 10:30 a.m.
