GOLDEN, Colo. Western Colorado track and field sent its multi-event athletes to the Colorado School of Mines on Wednesday and Thursday, where they competed in and earned top-10 finishes in the women's heptathlon and the men's decathlon at the Mines Midweek Multi.
In the decathlon,
Alexander Taylor placed seventh with 5,732 points, followed by
Shaw Walker in eighth (5,319),
Bridger Lynch in ninth (5,237) and
Colin Johnson in 10th (5,139).
In the women's heptathlon,
Addisyn Sweeney earned seventh place with a score of 4,155 points and
Lindsey Osterfelt placed ninth (3,802).
Taylor, Walker, Johnson, Sweeney and Osterfelt each claimed a first-place finish in a singular event during the two days at the Orediggers' Stermole Track & Field Complex.
During Wednesday's events, Osterfelt won the women's shotput with a toss of 11.46 meters (37 feet-7.25 inches).
Thursday saw Taylor register the top throw in the men's discus (38.66m, 126-10) and Walker tying for first place in the men's pole vault with a height of 4.30m (14-1.25).
Johnson won the penultimate event of the decathlon, the javelin throw, with a PR of 47.33m (155-3), then doubled up with a win in the final event, the 1,500-meter run, in a time of 4 minutes, 47.88 seconds.
In the last event of the women's heptathlon Thursday, Sweeney raced to the tape first in the 800, crossing the finish in a personal best 2: 28.02.
Along with Western's four top-10 decathlon finishers,
Joel Tezak placed 12th with 4,184 points, with each of the five Mountaineers competing in their first collegiate decathlons.
In the women's heptathlon, Osterfelt posted a career-best point total, while Sweeney and
Emerald Bryant (14th, 2,708 points) competed in the outdoor hep for the first time.
Kendall Morrison placed 15th with 1,470 points.
