AZUSA, Calif., LA VERNE, Calif. Western Colorado's split squad weekend produced not only strong results at home on Thursday, but also produced a trio of NCAA Division II provisional marks from the group that traveled to California.
Early in the day in Azusa, Calif., at the Bryan Clay Invitational,
Annaka Rudolph posted a career-best time of 25 minutes, 9.56 seconds in the women's 10,000-meter run, placing 21st overall but surpassing the NCAA DII provisional time to post the 16th fastest time in the event in the outdoor season.
The second DII provisional time on the day came across town at the University of La Verne's Leopard Invitational where Western's
Myia Dantzler won the 200-meter dash with a time, 24.04 seconds, that was not only a career best, not only Western's second fastest time in program history, and not only an NCAA provisional time, but the Ortmayer Stadium record.
Late in the event schedule at the Bryan Clay,
Jan Thewes added the third provisional time of the day for the Mountaineers, racing to ninth place in the men's 3,000m steeplechase with a time, 8:47.87, that is a career best and stands at the end of the day as the third fastest time in the event on the DII outdoor performance list.
Alissa Rall ran to another first-place finish for Western at the Leopard Invite, crossing the finish ahead of the pack in the 800m run with a time of 2:11.43 that is a career best and the program's fastest time so far during the outdoor season.
Among other top finishers on the day for Western were
Nathan Lumaye's sixth place (1:53.60) in the men's 800 and
Jayda Nix's sixth place (10:58.40) in the women's 3,000m steeplechase at the Leopard Invite.
Action continues for the Mountaineers Friday at both the Bryan Clay and the Leopard Invitationals.
