COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. Western Colorado's indoor track & field teams picked up a first-place finish in the women's mile Saturday afternoon at the Colorado Running Company UCCS Invite as the Mountaineers'
Allison Beasley broke away from the field to capture the event by 10 seconds.Â
Beasley circled the Mountain Lion Fieldhouse track in a time of 5 minutes, 5.56 seconds, easily outpacing the runner-up. Teammate
Gretchen Slattum ran to a fourth-place finish for Western, crossing the finish line in a time of 5:27.34.Â
The men's mile also provided top five finishes for Western.
Esteban Deniz (4:22.71),
John Houdeshell (4:23.07) and
Oliver Diaz (4:23.93) finished almost shoulder to shoulder in placing third, fourth and fifth, respectively.Â
The program earned its initial top five finish early in the meet as
Emma Kjellsen placed fourth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:18.63.Â
A pair of sprinters earned spots in the women's 60m dash final, in which
Nellie Wartanian crossed the finish in 7.63 seconds for fourth place and
Myia Dantzler was sixth in 7.70 seconds.Â
One of the men's sprinters,
James Duncan, made the finals of the men's 60m hurdles and took fourth place in a time of 8.32 seconds.Â
The triple jump added a top five for Western in both the men's and women's events.
Eireann Donohoe was fifth with a best leap of 11.05 meters (36 feet-3.0 inches), and in the men's event,
Cullen McReynolds was fifth with a jump of 13.79m (45-2.75).Â
In one of the verticals,
Sammie Bretz was second in the high jump, clearing a bar set at 1.70m (5-6.75).Â
Logan Butterfield had the best result for Western in the throws, placing fifth in the weight throw, measuring a best toss of 17.6m (57-8.75).Â
