EMPORIA, Kan. Western Colorado's Eddie Siuda raced to second-team All-American honors Friday evening at the 2024 NCAA Division II Men's and Women's Outdoor Track & FIeld Championships.
After advancing from Thursday's preliminary heats on the oval at Emporia University's Welch Stadium, Siuda on Friday placed ninth in the championship final of the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase with a personal best time of 8 minutes, 53.17 seconds.
Siuda climbed from 12th place on the opening lap to 10th place at the 1,000-meter mark. He rose to eighth place on the next lap and narrowly maintained that spot until the final 400 meters.
Earlier in the day the Mountaineers' Eireann Donohoe competed in the women's triple jump.
Donohoe led off the first flight's three preliminary jumps, recording her best leap of 12.00 meters (39 feet-4.5 inches) on her second attempt. That mark, though, was not enough to pass her through to the final round but earned her a 19th-place finish in her second national championship appearance.
The championship meet ends on Saturday at Welch Stadium with Ali Aldrich leading off the Mountaineer competitors with the women's shot put event.
Simon Kelati and Leah Taylor will run in the championship finals of the men's and women's 1,500-meter run, and then will be back on the track for the final individual event of the meet, the 5,000 in which they'll be joined in their respective men's and women's races by Tyler Nord and Allison Beasley.
