AZUSA, Calif. The highlight of the day for Western Colorado on Day 2 of the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif., belongs to the men's 5,000-meter run and All-American Simon Kelati.
Kelati, the 2024 NCAA indoor 3,000m national champion and multiple-time All-American, on Friday ran a time of 13 minutes, 34.94 seconds at the Invitational, moving him up to second all-time in program history.
Going into the weekend, his time would place Kelati first on the Division II national performance list.
Tyler Nord also walked away from the day with a personal best, a spot on the national performance list, and a place in the Western record books. Having run 13:46.03, Nord is now seventh all-time in program history and sits second on the D-II performance list behind only Kelati.
The middle-distance trio of Emma Kjellsen, Peyton Weiss, and Lauren Willson all secured personal bests in the women's 800, running 2:10.3, 2:10.8, and 2:12.7 respectively. Each of these times are also NCAA provisional marks.
In the women's 5,000, Leah Taylor ran a personal best of 16:17.53, which going into the weekend, would land her fourth in the national rankings. Allison Beasley, having raced her second event of the weekend, ran 16:36.41, also a provisional mark.
Leopard Distance Carnival
Esteban Deniz, running 14:09.45 in the men's 5,000, secured a win at the Leopard Distance Carnival in La Verne, Calif. Not only was this a personal best but also a provisional mark.
Eddie Siuda, registering a time of 8:53.37 in the 3,000 steeplechase, walks away from the meet with a second-place finish, a personal best, and a provisional mark. Going into the weekend, this would place Suida fifth on the national performance list.
Other notable mentions from the meet are John Houdeshell running 14:24.14 in the men's 5,000 and Gretchen Slattum running 17:19.76 in the women's 5,000.
