PUEBLO, Colo. Western Colorado's Eireann Donohoe opened up her outdoor season with a bang, winning the triple jump Friday afternoon at the Spank Blasing Invite with a leap of 12.37 meters (40 feet-7 inches), easily surpassing the NCAA provisional mark of 11.97m. 

Donohoe posted the opening round's best leap at the Colorado State University ThunderBowl, fouled on her second attempt, then launched to her winning mark in the third round. 

Heading into the weekend, Donohoe's mark registers as the top leap in the nation for NCAA Division II in the event. 

Placing eighth in the same event was teammate Emma Alford (11.24, 36-10.5), and in 11th was Emily Koetteritz (10.47, 34-4). 

Other events contested on the first day of the two-day Invite were the hammer throw and the javelin. 

Western's Ali Aldrich finished fourth in the women's hammer with a toss of 50.83 (166-9), while in the men's hammer, Logan Butterfield was sixth (52.41, 171-11.25) and Brock Baumgart was ninth (48.09, 157-9.25). 

The women's javelin throw saw the Mountaineers' Lindsey Osterfelt register a career best, finishing fourth overall with a throw of 38.32 (125-8.5). 

In the men's event, Ty Walck was ninth (51.85, 170-1.25) while Sean House was 12th (48.63, 159-6.5). 

Competition on Saturday begins at 10 a.m. with the running events and at 11 a.m. with the field events.
