GUNNISON, Colo. Western Colorado's Track & Field team will split their squad this weekend between two separate NCAA Division I meets. The Mountaineers will take five distance runners to Seattle, Wash., on Friday, February 9 and Saturday, Feb. 10. The team will also send a mix of track and field athletes to Albuquerque, N.M., for the Don Kirby Invite over the same two days.
HUSKIE CLASSIC ATHLETES TO LOOK OUT FOR

Tyler Nord will compete in the men's 3,000m run this weekend. He ran a personal best in the event in his first meet of the season (Mountaineer Open) with a time of 8 minutes and 25.75 seconds.

Simon Kelati and John Houdeshell will both compete in the 5,000m run in a field of 61 runners. The pair registered NCAA Division II provisional times at the Mountaineer Open (Dec. 9) in the event. Houdeshell clocked a time of 15:10.11, while Kelati placed first with a time of 14:35.64. Kelati recorded a personal-best of 8:36.87 in the 3,000m.

On the women's side, Leah Taylor and Peyton Weiss will make the trip to Seattle, Wash., to compete in the 3,000m run. Taylor ran a personal-best time of 2:15.13, last weekend at the Big Red Machine in the 800m run. Weiss has had a very strong start to her collegiate career with a mile time of 5:02.64 at the Mountaineer Open.
DON KIRBY ATHLETES TO LOOK OUT FOR

Branden Davis will compete in both the mile and 3,000m run for the Mountaineers in Albuquerque, N.M., Davis has competed in just one other meet this season, the Big Red Machine Open, and placed first in the 5,000m with a time of 15:25.79.

Logan Butterfield will compete in the weight throw after placing first at the Big Red Machine Open last weekend, with a mark of 17.65m (57 feet – 11 inches).

On the women's side, Sammie Bretz will compete in the high jump after placing first with a mark of 1.63m (5-4.25) at the Big Red Machine Open. Bretz has placed in the top two at all four meets she has competed at this season. Eireann Donohoe will also compete at the Don Kirby Invite for the Mountaineers, after earning the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week award for her efforts in the triple jump last weekend at the Big Red Machine Open.
