GUNNISON, Colo. Western Colorado returns to Gunnison, Colo., after going 1-1 in its latest road trip to the front range. The Mountaineers will play a rare Tuesday game against Colorado Mesa at 5 p.m., on January 30. On Saturday, February 3, Westminster University will come into town for a 3 p.m., tip off.
Show your support for the women's basketball team by wearing white to Tuesday night's game. On Saturday, the Mountaineers' basketball programs will then honor teachers and professors by granting them free admission into Saturday's games.
The Mountaineers split the season series with the Mavericks last season by winning on the road 61-60 and losing at home 59-48. Western Colorado will look to flip the script against the Griffins after losing its last six match ups including an overtime heart breaker last season.
MOUNTAINEERS HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND | 2023-24 Stats
- Western Colorado (4-13, 2-10) split its road trip with a 76-68 loss to No. 12 Colorado School of Mines before earning their second conference win of the season to MSU Denver, 70-61. The Mountaineers are recording 58.6 points per game while making 42% of their shots from the field.
- Rachel Cockman continues to dominate as she registered a pair of 20-plus point games this weekend. On Friday against Mines, she tallied a season-high 28 points, which included 45-percent shooting from the field. Saturday in the Mountaineers victory, Cockman and Ivey Schmidt tallied 21 points apiece. Cockman has averaged 17.6 points per game, which ranks fifth in the conference. The junior also ranks sixth in the RMAC with a field goal percentage of .460. Jayda Maves has also led the Mountaineers offensively with 12.2 points per game while making 37% of her shots from the field. Maves ranks seventh in the conference with a 3-point field goal percentage of .354.
- Defensively, Cockman leads Western Colorado with 8.2 rebounds per game, 16 blocked shots and 13 steals. Schmidt has also been a force on defense with 4.9 rebounds per game with 76 defensive boards this season.
MAVERICKS HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND | 2023-24 Stats
- The Mavericks (15-4, 9-3 RMAC) are coming off their third straight win after a 16-point win over Fort Lewis, Saturday night. Colorado Mesa ranks fourth in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference in team field goal percentage (42%) and in points per game (70.5). The Mavs have held their opponents to just 59.3 points per game, which is second in the conference.
- Olivia Reed leads Colorado Mesa in scoring with 16.5 points per game, which is 7th in the conference. She also leads the Mavericks with a .590 field goal percentage that also ranks second in the league. Mason Rowland has also been a reliable shooter for Colorado Mesa averaging 15.1 points per game, while making 39% of her shots from the field.
- Reed also leads the Mavericks' defensive efforts with 10.9 rebounds per game, 23 blocked shots and 23 steals this season. Her 10.9 rebounds per game ranks second in the RMAC, while also ranking third in blocked shots.
GRIFFINS HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND | 2023-24 Stats
- The Griffins (3-16,1-12 RMAC) are looking for their first win since Jan. 19 after dropping their last three contests including a game against Fort Lewis Friday night. Westminster has averaged 53.9 points per game while giving up 66.5 points per game through the first 19 games of the season.
- Teuila Nawahine has registered 12.7 points per game for the Griffins, while shooting 35% from the field. Elizabeth Means is also averaging double digit points for the Griffins with 10.5 points per game.
- Maunayia Harrigfeld has tallied 8.7 rebounds per game this season, which leads the Griffins. She also has registered 29 steals and 20 blocks on the season.

Western Colorado will stay in Gunnison, Colo., as they welcome in Chadron State and Colorado Christian next weekend. The Mountaineers will face the Eagles on Friday, Feb. 9, for a 5 p.m., tip off, followed by a 3 p.m., tip off Saturday, Feb. 10 against the Cougars.
