GOLDEN, COLO. Western Colorado closed out the Mines Winter Classic, hosted by Colorado School of Mines, with seven NCAA Division II Provisional marks over the two-day meeting. On day one, both the men's and women's distance medley relay teams registered NCAA DII provisional marks. All track event times are adjusted for track size and altitude. Â
MINES WINTER CLASSIC DAY TWO HIGHLIGHTS Â
- For the men, John Houdeshell earned a provisional mark in the mile with a time of four minutes and 19.17 seconds. The sophomore finished in seventh place just eight seconds behind the event's winner and is the 13th fastest time in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. Â
- On the women side, the Mountaineers registered four provisional marks starting with Sammie Bretz in the high jump. The junior placed second with a mark of 1.71-meters (5 feet-7.25 inches) and now sits 9th on the NCAA DII performance list. Bretz passed the first three heights before clearing 1.61m on the first try. Â
- On the track, Peyton Weiss and Emma Kjellsen both recorded provisional times in the 800m run. Weiss finished in second place with a time of 2:16.11, which was just two seconds behind the first-place finisher. Her latest mark ranks 12th on the performance list and 5th in the conference. Kjellsen placed third in the event with a time of 2:17.05. She currently stands 24th on the performance list and 7th in the conference. Â
- Leah Taylor was the final Mountaineer to record a provisional mark and did it in the mile. She finished the race in second with a time of 4:57.39. Taylor has the fourth fastest time in the conference and the fifth fastest time in Division II this season. Â
