GUNNISON, Colo. On Tuesday (May. 16) the NCAA announced the National qualifiers for the women's and men's 2023 Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The Mountaineers had 13 athletes – six women and seven men – qualify for Nationals, which will be hosted in Pueblo from May 25 (Thur.) – 27 (Sat.).
For the women's team they will send six women to Nationals.
- Emma Kjellsen and Leah Taylor will represent Western in the 1,500m, Kjellsen entering ranked 12th (4:23.94) and Taylor ranked 19th (4:25.34).
- Katie Doucette and Allison Beasley will take to the track in the 5,000m, Doucette being ranked eighth (16:13.73) and Beasley ranked 14th (16:23.07).
- Doucette will also compete in the 10,000m, ranked seventh (34:19.81).
- Similar to Doucette, Beasley will also compete in a second event. That event being the 3,000m steeplechase where she is ranked 11th (10:25.72).
- Kaiya Firor will be the lone Mountaineer competing in the 400m hurdles, having the 12th best time (59.91).
- Ali Aldrich will be the lone field athlete competing at Nationals, representing Western in the shot put. Aldrich has the ninth best mark (14.84m, 48-08.25).
For the men's team they will send seven men to Nationals.
- Tyler Nord and Simon Kelati will be representing the Mountaineers in the 1,500m, Nord being ranked 14th (3:44.83) and Kelati ranked 18th (3:45.08).
- Kelati and Nord will also be competing in the 5,000m. Kelati enters with the ninth best time (13:51.79) and Nord has the 19th best time (14:03.64).
- Jacob Hernandez will be the lone Western athletes running in the 10,000m for the men, entering ranked 14th (29:17.55).
- Albert Hesse and Michael Grabowski will toe the line in the 3,000m steeplechase, Hesse having the seventh best time (8:53.38) and Grabowski having the 17th best time (8:59.06).
- Malcom Wesley will be the lone Mountaineer competing in the long jump, entering with the fifth best mark (7.66m, 25-01.75).
- Rounding things out, Ismael Dembele will compete in the triple jump, holding the 10th best mark (15.36m, 50-04.75).
