GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. Western Colorado had a good start to day one of the CMU Invite #2. Several athletes achieved personal records and another school record fell.
 
SCHOOL RECORD

• Malcom Wesley broke a 30-year-old record today (Apr. 15) in the men's long jump, soaring threw the air and landing at a distance of 7.66m (25-01.75). That mark earned him first-place and a provisional qualifying mark. Wesley is now the school record holder in the indoor and outdoor long jump.

TOP-FIVE FINISHES

• Chloe Brackenbury took home the gold in the women's hammer, with a personal best throw of 48.01m (157-06).
• Recording three of the four top spots in the women's javelin, Linnea Baldner had the best finish – second-place - for the Mountaineers throwing the javelin a distance of 35.50m (116-06). Coming in third-place was Lindsey Osterfelt (30.58m, 100-04), and right behind her was Myles Hilbert (27.80m, 91-02).
• Osterfelt also competed in the women's hammer and came in fourth-place with a toss of 40.44m (132-08).
• Coming in third-place in the women's pole vault, Lauren Smith cleared a height of 3.83m (12-06.75) on her first attempt.
• Michael Morgan earned himself a third-place finish in the men's javelin, recording a throw of 52.19m (171-03).
• In the women's long jump, Cora Olson came in third-place with a distance of 5.42m (17-09.50).
• Earning a pair of top-five finishes in the men's hammer, Tyler Nelson finished third with a mark of 52.22m (171-04) and was followed by Logan Butterfield in fourth-place (50.81m, 166-08).
• Scott Grable came in fourth-place in the men's long jump, leaping to a personal best mark of 7.09m (23-03.25).
• Deagen Fahrney earned a fourth-place finish in the men's 3,000m steeplechase, crossing the line in a personal best time of 10:09.19.

UP NEXT
The Mountaineers will be back in action at 11 a.m., tomorrow (Apr. 16) wrapping up the CMU Invite #2. The shot put and high jump will be the first events Western will compete in.
