VIRGINIA BEACH, VA. Western Colorado had an impressive start to the 2023 Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships, walking away with three All-Americans and one athlete moving onto the finals after the conclusion of day one.
ALL-AMERICAN
- Earning the highest finish on the day, the women's distance medley – Allison Beasley, Kaiya Firor, Emma Kjellsen, Katie Doucette – team was in the top-three for the majority of the race, as they crossed the finish line in third-place with a second all-time mark of 11:29.08.
- Malcom Wesley became a two-time indoor All-American (2022, 2023) in the men's long jump, leaping to a distance of 7.22m (23-08.25) which earned him eighth-place.
- The final Mountaineer to earn All-American honors was Simon Kelati, who emptied the tank in the men's 5,000m resulting in him coming in eighth-place in a personal best time of 14:10.35.
MOVING ON TO THE FINALS
- The lone Mountaineer to move onto the finals was Allison Beasley who was flying around the track, crossing the finish line in a personal best time of 4:48.66 in the women's mile. That time earned her fifth-place in the event and puts her at sixth all-time. Beasley will compete in the finals tomorrow (Mar. 11) at 2:20 p.m., Mountain Standard Time (MST).
