SALT LAKE CITY, Utah / GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. Western Colorado will have good opportunity to pick up their first road win of the season, as they hit the road for their next four games. The first road game will be on Thursday (Jan. 26) when the Mountaineers take on Westminster College at 7 p.m. Two days (Jan. 28) later, Western will take on rival Colorado Mesa at 7:30 p.m.
 
MOUNTAINEERS HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND | SEASON STATS | RMAC STATS | RMAC STANDINGS
  • Western has tried to snap their losing streak. But, things just haven't gone their way resulting in them losing their last four games. Recently, the Mountaineers loss 70-77 to MSU Denver and 65-79 to Colorado School of Mines.
  • Avery Rembao has been the top scorer as of late, averaging 15.5-points during the four-game losing streak. In Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) contest, Rembao leads the team in scoring for the season scoring 15-points (tied for ninth in RMAC). Robel Desta is tied with Rembao in scoring and unfortunately, has missed the last two games which has been hard to overcome. Desta is the team's best field goal percentage shooter making 39 percent (25th in RMAC) and leads the team at the free throw line, making 80.9 percent (seventh in RMAC).
  • Gino Corridori leads the way when it comes to rebounding, grabbing 7.3 rebounds (tied for sixth in RMAC) and Desta is the teams best shot blocker, blocking 0.7 shots (tied for 10th in RMAC).
  • At the moment, Western has the 15th ranked offense scoring 65.8-points and 13th ranked defense, giving up 77.7-points, which is 13th in the RMAC. For the season, the Mountaineers makes 37.5 percent from the field (15th in RMAC), 31.4 percent from three (14th in RMAC) and 72.1 percent from the free throw line (13th in RMAC).
  • With ten games left in the season, Western currently is in 14th-place (1-11) in the RMAC standings.
GRIFFINS ON OUTSIDE LOOKING IN
  • Westminster will attempt to get things going as they currently are in 11th place (5-8) in the RMAC standings. In their last two games, they beat Adams State 76-67 and then loss 63-79 to Fort Lewis.
  • If the Mountaineers can slow down Trey Farrer they will have a good shot at winning the game, as he has been averaging 17.6-points (seventh in RMAC). Taylor Miller is also a threat on offense, averaging 13.3-points this season. Farrer is the best field goal and free throw percentage shooter, making 55.6-points (third in RMAC) from the field and 79.7 percent (ninth in RMAC) from the free throw line.  From three, the Griffins are led by Jeremy DowDell who makes 42.2 percent (sixth in RMAC).
  • Farrer also leads their team on defense. Currently, he leads the team in rebounds with 6.8 (tied for eighth) and blocked shots with 0.7 (tied for 10th in RMAC).
  • For the season, Westminster has the eighth ranked offense scoring 72.7-points and has the fifth ranked defense, only giving up 70.5-points. Shooting wise, the Griffins shoot 47.4 percent from the field (fourth in RMAC), 34.1 percent from three (eighth in RMAC) and 73.5 percent from the free throw line (eighth in RMAC).
MAVERICKS RED HOT
  • Colorado Mesa has been one of the better teams in the RMAC this season, holding a 10-2 RMAC record which puts them in fourth place. The Mavericks have been on a roll since Dec. 9, resulting in them currently being on a ten-game winning streak.
  • Blaise Threatt and Trevor Baskin have been the go to scorers for Colorado Mesa this season. Threatt averaging 17.8-points (fifth in RMAC) and Baskin averaging 13.5-points (17th in RMAC). When it comes to field goal percentage the duo is right next to one another in the rankings, Threatt making 53.6 percent (fourth in RMAC) and Baskin making 53.2 percent (fifth in RMAC). Baskin leads the way at the free throw line, making 77.1 percent (13th in RMAC) and Threatt makes 72.1 percent (20th in RMAC).
  • Defensively, Baskin is the top rebounder for the team grabbing 7.3 boards (sixth in RMAC) and leads the team in blocked shots with 1.0 (sixth in RMAC). Threatt and Mac Riniker are the best at stealing the ball on their team, both averaging 1.8 steals (tied for second in the RMAC).
  • This season, the Mavericks have the seventh ranked offense scoring 74.8-points and second ranked defense, giving up 65.5-points. They shoot 49.6 percent from the field (second in RMAC), 39.1 percent from three (first in RMAC) and 72.7 percent from the free throw line (11th in RMAC).
