ALLENDALE, Mich. The Western Colorado track and field team will toe the line tomorrow, when they compete in the 2022 NCAA Division II Men's and Women Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Grand Valley State Track and Field stadium. The Mountaineers had six athletes – four men and two women – make the qualifying cut.
The first athlete to compete is All-American
Malcom Wesley, who will try to earn All-American honors again in the men's long jump at 12:30 p.m., mountain time, Wesley enters with a mark of 7.62m (25-feet). That mark has Wesley ranked 10th out of 19 jumpers.
A few hours later, 3:10 p.m.,(MT), to be exact,
Simon Kelati will take to the track in the men's 1,500-meter prelim race entering with a time of 3 minutes, 45.73 seconds. That time has him ranked 22nd out of 23 runners. The finals for the 1,500m will be on Saturday, May 28 at 12:25 p.m., (MT).
The final runners to compete on day one will be
Cade Michael and
Albert Hesse, both competing in the men's 3,000m steeplechase at 4:40 p.m., (MT). Michael is ranked 14th in the steeplechase, having a time of 8:55.48, while Hesse is ranked slightly above Michael having the 13th best time in the event, 8:55.43. The next day, Friday, May 27, the 3,000m steeplechase finals will start at 5:15 p.m., (MT).
On day two,
Eireann Donohoe will kick things off at 2:45 p.m.,(MT), competing in the women's triple jump with mark of 12.44m (40-09.75). That mark has her ranked 16th out of 24 jumpers.
Michael and
Katie Doucette will wrap things up for the Mountaineers on the final day (May 28), both athletes competing in the 5,000m. In the men's 5,000 Michael is ranked 23rd out of 24 runners with a time of 14:06.09. Two-time All-American, Doucette enters the event ranked 13th (16:23.36) out of 24 runners. Michael will compete at 3 p.m., while Doucette will follow at 3:25 p.m., (MT).
The NCAA Championship will start on Thursday, May 26 and conclude on Saturday, May 28 in Allendale, Michigan, at the Grand Valley State Track & Field Stadium. The championships will be streamed live on NCAA.com.
