GUNNISON, Colo. Western Colorado is coming into this weekend after losing their last two matchups. The Mountaineers are looking to snap their losing streak as the season comes to a close, when they play Colorado Mesa (Feb. 24) and Westminster College (Feb. 26).

At halftime of the game on Thursday, against Colorado Mesa University the Western Colorado football team will be recognized for their 2021 RMAC championship. 
 
MOUNTAINEERS HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND | SEASON STATS
  • Western has been struggling to get a win these past few weeks, and this past weekend was no exception. After losing their last two games against CSU Pueblo 77-85 (Feb. 18) and Adams State University 85-94 (Feb. 19) their losing streak has grown to eight games in a row now. Western Colorado still sits in 15th place overall on the RMAC standings with a record of 4-16 within their conference.
  • In their game against CSU Pueblo, Matthew Ragsdale led all of the players on the floor in scoring. With a total of 30 points, with 28 of those points coming in the second half of the game. Ragsdale is still the leading scorer for the Mountaineers, averaging a total of 22.1-points per-game (No. 2 RMAC)
  • Other notable players for the game against CSU Pueblo were Avery Rembao who was able to add 12-points to the Mountaineer's effort, Gino Corridori who was able to score nine-points, and Jaelan McCloud who scored eight-points.
  • In their second game of last weekend against Adams State, Cole Sienknecht was a force to be reckoned with scoring 24-points in the game and sinking six three-point shots. Matthew Ragsdale was able to score 20-points along with 3 three-point buckets. Jaelan McCloud also helped in the effort, scoring 12-points with 2 three pointers, and Will Willis helped out by adding 11-points himself to the board.
  • Western currently sits at the number nine spot in the RMAC rankings for offensive scoring, averaging a total of 75.7-points per-game. While they are still ranked number 15 in defense on the RMAC rankings, giving up an average of 82.2-points per-game.
MAVERICKS HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND | SEASON STATS
  • The Mavericks are coming into this weekend looking to extend their six-game winning streak. They won their last two games against Regis University 91-79 (Feb. 18) and Colorado School of Mines 72-62 (Feb. 19). Colorado Mesa is currently sitting in second place in the RMAC standings, with a conference record of 15-5.
  • In their game against Regis University, redshirt freshman Trevor Baskin led the team with a total of 21-points but got into foul trouble late in the game. Redshirt freshman Mac Riniker also got himself into some foul trouble, but that was after he was able to put up 19-points in the victory.
  • Rebounding was a big part of the mavericks making it out with the win. Redshirt senior Jared Small, redshirt freshman Blaise Threatt, and Trevor Baskin were able to get five defensive rebounds each.
  • In their game against Colorado School of Mines, Blaise Threatt was a major threat to the oppoistion. He scored a career high 27-points, 10 of those points came from the free throw line while he also tacked up four buckets from 3-point range. Other notable players include Jared Small, who scored 17-points. Mac Riniker, who scored eight-points and Trevor Baskin who scored six-points.
  • Colorado Mesa University is currently sitting at the fifth position for offense in the RMAC rankings, averaging a total of 78.2-points per-game. While for defense they sit in the number two position for the RMAC rankings, averaging 67.3-points let up per-game.
GRIFFINS HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND | SEASON STATS
  • Westminster College is looking to extend their two-game winning streak as they head into this weekend. They won their last two games against Colorado School of Mines 80-78 (Feb. 18) and Regis University 72-53 (Feb. 19). The Griffins are currently sitting in 14th place offensively, averaging 68.6 points per-game. While defensively, they are ranked fourth giving up an average of 70.60-points per-game.
  • In their game against Colorado School of Mines, Taylor Miller was a standout performer putting up 21-points for the griffins in their win. Other notable players in their narrow win against Colorado School of Mines include Matt Kitzman who was able to score 13-points. Brayden Johnson and Brantzen Blackner each put up nine-points.
  • In their game against Regis University, Taylor Miller was also a major threat in this game. He ended up scoring a career-high 27-points in the nearly 20-point win. Other notable players that put on for the griffins include Matt Kitzman who scored 12-points, Brayden Johnson who scored eight-points and Yusuf Mohamed who scored eight-points.
  • Westminster College is currently sitting at 14th on the RMAC offensive rankings, averaging 68.6-points scored per-game. While defensively they are sitting at fourth position in the RMAC rankings, letting up an average of 70.6-points per-game.
