ALAMOSA / DURANGO, Colo. Western Colorado has been clicking on all cylinders as of late and will look to build on that success when they tip-off Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference competition, against Adams State (Dec. 2) and Fort Lewis (Dec. 3).
 
MOUNTAINEERS HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND | SEASON STATS
  • Western concluded The Inn at Tomichi Village Thanksgiving Classic on a strong note, beating Simon Fraser (72-61) and Northern New Mexico (75-64). Robel Desta had a coming out party in both games, dropping 21-points against the Red Leaf's and 29-points against the Eagles.
  • In four games, Desta is the leading scorer for the Mountaineers averaging 14-points per game (PG), shooting 52.9 percent from the field and 58.3 percent from three. Right behind Desta in scoring is Avery Rembao (9.7 PG), Gino Corridori (9.3 PG) and Jonathan McCloud (8.8 PG).
  • On defense, Desta is the team's leading rebounder grabbing 35 boards this season – 24 defensive, 11 offensive. Syris Williams is also someone to watch on the defensive side as he has made it tough for ballhandlers recording five steals. When it comes to protecting the paint, Jaelan McCloud has been the best for the Mountaineers blocking four shots so far this season. Corridori and Rembao are right behind in that category each having three apiece.
  • As a whole, Western averages 62.3-points PG, shooting; 38.5 percent from the field, 27.5 percent from three and 72 percent from the free throw line.
GRIZZLIES HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND | SEASON STATS
  • Adams State split their Thanksgiving Classic games defeating Navajo Technical 93-56, then losing to Southeastern Oklahoma State 77-86. Kolby Walker was the leading scorer against Navajo Tech dropping 24-points and Lamont Sanders was the leading scorer against Southeastern Okla., scoring 21-points.
  • Sanders is the leading scorer for the Grizzlies so far this season, scoring 18-points PG, while Walker and Isaiah Sampson are right behind him scoring 12 and 11.2-points PG. Out of the trio, Sampson is the better field goal shooter making 55.8 percent. Walker is the best three-point shooter making 50 percent.  
  • On the glass, Sampson is the leading rebounder grabbing 5.7 rebounds PG and is the team's best rim protector blocking eight shots. In the steals department, Walker has recorded a team high 12 steals.
  • As a whole, Adams State averages76.3-points PG, shooting; 45.8 percent from the field, 43.2 percent from three and 70.5 percent from the free throw line.
SKYHAWKS HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND | SEASON STATS
  • Fort Lewis has started the season off red hot as they are currently 6-0, recently beating Southeastern Okla. State 99-85 and Navajo Tech 120-78. Akuel Kot was the leading scorer in both games, dropping 34-points against the Savage Storm and 26-points against the Skyhawks.
  • To no surprise Kot is the leading scorer for the Skyhawks averaging 29.2-points PG. Junior Garbrah (11.4), Brenden Boatwright (11.3) and Obi Agbim (10.4) are also threats on the offensive side, each averaging double digits. Kot leads the team in field goal percentage making 59.5 percent and three-point percentage making 51.4 percent.
  • Sekou Dembele is the leading rebounder for Fort Lewis grabbing 7.6 rebounds PG. Also making his presence felt on defense, JaQuaylon Mays has recorded 10 steals this season. Kot and Dunnell Stafford right behind him with eight and seven steals. Brendan La Rose is the teams best shot blocker recording four blocks. Boatwright is right behind him with three blocks of his own.
  • As a whole, the Skyhawks average 95.7 points PG, shooting; 49 percent from the field, 41.2 percent from three and 78.2 percent from the free throw line.
