GUNNISON, Colo. --- The track and field program is scheduled to hosts their first meet of 2021, as MSU Denver and CSU Pueblo travel to Gunnison to compete in the Western Colorado Triangular in the Mountaineer Field House.
 
The two-day event will consist of field events beginning Friday at 4:00 p.m. and finishing up in the evening. On Saturday, track events will begin at 11:00 a.m. and should wrap up around 4:30 p.m. All events will be streamed on the Western Colorado Mountaineer YouTube page and live results will be posted on the link here.
 
With current Gunnison County Covid-19 Guidelines there will only be 25 athletes allowed in the Field House at a time, meaning there will only be up to two events going at a time. The County is also requiring all participants to wear their masks during competition.
 
This is the first week the Mountaineers will take to the track to compete this season, as they look to set qualifying marks for nationals. Coming off a canceled outdoor season, many of these athletes have not raced in close to a year.
 
On the entry list, Western Colorado holds the top seed time/mark for multiple events. Athletes to watch over the weekend will consist of:
 
In the men's field events, Rhys Ryba comes in seeded second in the weight throw with his mark of 16.58-meters, and third in the shot put with 16.47-meters. Brian Schmidt, the school record holder in the long jump, is seeded first in the event with his jump of 7.34-meters from last year. Luke Wuesthoff is the top seeded pole-vaulter on the men's side with his personal best of 4.91-meters. Kelita Baroumbaye with his mark of 14.13-meters holds the top entry seed in the triple jump.
 
In the women's field events, Choying O'Brien is the top seeded pole-vaulter with her entry mark of 3.58-meters. As Myles Hilbert holds the top seed heading into the meet in the women's high jump with a mark of 1.57-meters.
 
On the track for the men, Taylor Stack and Charlie Sweeney will look to run qualifying times in the 3,000-meter as they come in with the top two times. Evan Sutherland enters the meet with the top seed time in the mile with an entry of 4:08.52. As Gage Mayo will look to win the 800-meter as he is seeded second overall with his time of 1:51.03.
 
In the women's track events, school record holder Chelsey Murphy will race both the 60-meter hurdles and the 200-meter dash, she ranks first in the 60 hurdles with 8.60 seconds and second in the 200 with 25.96 seconds. Ranking first in the 200-meter is Mountaineer Kaiya Firor with her seed time of 25.80 seconds. Firor also ranks first in the 400-meter with her seed time of 57.92 seconds. On the distance side, Katie Doucette will look to qualify in the 3,000-meter as she comes in with the second fastest seed time of 9:52.63.
