GUNNISON, Colo. – Western Colorado University Women's Basketball wrapped up their preseason exhibition schedule at the Air Force Academy. The Mountaineers were unable to overcome the Falcons on their home court, 54-72.
After a slow start, Western found their touch in the second half at the Cadet Gymnasium. Throughout the third and fourth quarters, Western shot 42.9% from the floor.
While all the Mountaineers built their confidence in the second-half, much of their late-game success can be attributed to bench play. On the night, Western's bench outscored Air Force 28-15.
Leading the way for Western was
Chandler Willis. Coming off the bench, Willis poured in 13 points on 5-8 shooting along with three rebounds. Willis' was efficient in limited minutes, playing only 19 minutes for Western before fouling out of the game.
Samantha Coleman put up seven points and two rebounds for Western while
Jadyn Kanzler offered Western's strongest presence inside with six points and four rebounds.
Western countered a slow night from the floor with physicality on the glass and production at the charity stripe. Western nearly bested Air Force on the glass with 34 total rebounds. On the game, Western earned 22 points at the free throw line on 69% shooting.
