COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Western State Colorado University women's basketball heads out for a two-game road trip this weekend. Friday, Western plays University of Colorado at Colorado Springs at 5:30 p.m. Following a quick jaunt north, Western will play Metropolitan State University of Denver Saturday at 5:00 p.m.
On the road, Western looks for wins against two distinctly different Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opponents. UCCS (5-11, 5-6 RMAC) is ranked one position ahead of Western in the RMAC standings while MSU-Denver (12-5, 8-3 RMAC) features as the third ranked team in the conference.
For the second time in four weeks, Western (6-11, 3-8 RMAC) takes on UCCS. It will be the first time all season the Mountaineers see the Roadrunners of Metropolitan State University.
Western continues to be led by the frontcourt presence of
Katie Dalton who averages 10.4 points per game. On the flipside, the Mountaineers continue to bring the defensive pressure in the backcourt. Western is forcing 17.4 turnovers a game, while guard
Tammarrah Gothard continues to maintain second-place in the RMAC in steals per game.
After a series of close loses last weekend, the Mountaineers look to regain their winning ways against UCCS. The last time both teams played, Western took a 12 point victory over UCCS 74-62 in Paul Wright Gym.
On a two-game win streak, UCCS welcomes Western to their home court fresh off an upset of RMAC leader, CSU-Pueblo. Following the wins, the Mountain Lions are 3-3 at home on the season. UCCS's priority scoring threat comes in the paint from Shanah Leaf.
At Metropolitan State, Western finds a team on a hot streak. The Roadrunners have won their last three games including a close win over CSU-Pueblo and a blow-out victory versus New Mexico Highlands. With a potent offense, MSU-Denver has been good for over 66 points a game with a 6.8 scoring margin on the season. With four women averaging double-digit scoring, the Roadrunners distribute the ball in a balanced offense.
For those who can't make the road trip, both games will be broadcast live on Stretch Internet and live stats will also be available.
