PUEBLO, Colo. The Western Colorado Track and Field team delivered a strong performance on day two of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships Friday afternoon, with numerous Mountaineers advancing to Sunday's finals and several standout marks highlighting the day.
The sprint events set the tone, as Myia Dantzler turned in a record-breaking performance in the 100-meter dash prelims, placing third in 11.51 seconds—a career-best time that now stands as the top mark in program history. She also secured a spot in the 200m finals, finishing fourth in 24.47 seconds, the sixth-fastest time ever recorded by the program. On the men's side, Jeffrey Poku advanced to the 100m finals with a time of 10.57 seconds, ranking fifth in school history.
In distance competition, Jan Thewes earned First Team All-RMAC honors with a second-place finish in the 3,000m steeplechase, clocking 9:02.58. Peyton Weiss led the women's 800m prelims with a winning time of 2:13.39, while Alissa Rall also advanced after finishing seventh in 2:15.04.
Will Stone posted a personal-best 54.30 seconds in the men's 400m hurdles to take sixth place, a mark that ranks ninth in program history. The men's 1,500m saw a dominant showing, with Tyler Nord winning the prelim in 3:50.44, followed by Oliver Diaz in seventh (3:52.94) and Wyatt Hoover in eighth (4:00.44), all advancing to the finals. In the women's 1,500m, Emma Kjellsen placed third in 4:36.39 and Lauren Willson took eighth in 4:44.27, sending both to Sunday's final. Annaka Rudolph added a sixth-place finish in the 10,000m with a time of 37:51.82.
In the field events, Johanna Brown placed seventh in the shot put with a throw of 12.35m (40-feet-6.25-inches), while Brandon Kolb cleared 1.95m (6-4.75) to take sixth in the high jump. Gaby Huggins secured sixth in the long jump with a leap of 5.70m (18-8.50), hitting the mark on her sixth and final attempt. Katrina Trahan added valuable points with a fifth-place finish in the discus, recording a throw of 42.38m (139-0.00) on her second attempt.
Brayden Jones earned All-RMAC honors in the men's pole vault, placing third with a clearance of 4.77m (15-7.75).
In the heptathlon, Addisyn Sweeney tallied 4,490 points to finish eighth overall. She claimed victory in the high jump with a clearance of 1.64m (5-4.50), and added fifth-place finishes in both the 200m (25.64) and 800m (2:25.20).
The men's team currently sits in seventh place with 17 total points and the women are tied for fifth with 13 total points after day 2.
