PUEBLO, Colo. The 2026 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Men's and Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championships got underway Friday, getting out of the starting blocks with the opening day of the two-day multi events – the women's heptathlon and the men's decathlon.
After the opening four events of the seven in the heptathlon,
Addisyn Sweeney paces three Mountaineer competitors, closing out Friday in sixth place with 2,732 points, 41 points behind fifth place.
In the men's decathlon,
Alexander Taylor is in 10th place after five events, heading into Saturday with a total of 3,216 points, trailing 9th place by only 16 points.
Sweeney's best result of the day was in the high jump, where she cleared a height of 1.64 meters (5 feet-4.5 inches) to win the event with a personal best by five inches.
Sweeney was also Western's top finishers in the 100m hurdles (ninth) and the 200m dash (fifth).
Lindsey Osterfelt was Western's top finisher in the other of the four events Friday, placing second in the shot put with a toss of 11.03m (36-2.25) on the last of her three attempts.
Taylor earned his Day 1 ranking after leading the Mountaineers in the shot put (fifth), long jump (seventh) and the high jump (seventh).
Shaw Walker paced the five Mountaineer competitors in the other two events, placing eighth in the 100m dash and ninth in the 400m run.

UP NEXT
- The multi athletes conclude their respective events on Saturday, with first events for the heptathlon and decathlon scheduled for a 9:30 a.m. start.
- The men's and women's 10,000m run events get things started on the track at 8 a.m., with the field events kicking off the morning at 9 a.m. with the men's shot put.
