AZUSA, Calif., PORTALES, N.M. A split squad weekend concluded Saturday with runners at the Bryan Clay Invitational posting NCAA Division II provisional times while Mountaineers throwers competed at the Greyhound Invitational where new career marks were achieved.
All three Western women competing in the 1,500-meter run at Azusa Pacific University's Bryan Clay meet hit career best times, including
Peyton Weiss who posted a time of 4 minutes, 20.68 seconds that elevated her to No. 9 on the DII outdoor performance list in the event.
Emma Kjellsen had previously raced to a provisional time in the event with a raw time of 4:31.00, which with the altitude adjustment applied surpassed the provisional standard, and on Saturday at the Bryan Clay she finished with a new career best time of 4:27.73.
Lauren Willson completed the career trifecta for Western in the event, registering a new personal record and provisional time of 4:28.80 that sits 36th on the DII national list.
In the men's 1,500,
Wyatt Hoover ran to a career-best time of 3:47.67 that was excruciatingly close to the NCAA provisional time of 3:47.14.
In the sprint events at the Bryan Clay, Western's
Myia Dantzler tied her career best time in the 200m dash from two days prior at the University of La Verne's Leopard Invite, hitting the tape in a time of 24.04 seconds that is 37th on the DII list and 2nd on Western's all-time top 10 list in the event.
Several of Western's throwers attended Saturday's Greyhound Open at Eastern New Mexico University, where
Abigail Nehring hit new PRs in two events.
She placed third in the women's shot put with a best toss of 11.72 meters (38 feet-5.5 inches) and hit another career mark in the hammer throw with a best mark of 41.83m (137-3).
Next up for the Mountaineer track & field program is the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's outdoor championship on April 24-26 at the Colorado State University Pueblo ThunderBowl.
