AZUSA, Calif., LA VERNE, Calif. Runners from Western Colorado's track team burned up tracks at the Bryan Clay Invitational and the Leopard Invitational on Friday, many results registering at personal bests.
The final Western runner on the day came late at night in Azusa, Calif., where
Tyler Nord circled the Cougar Athletic Stadium track at Azusa Pacific University to claim fourth place in the men's 5,000-meter run at the Bryan Clay, with a time of 13 minutes, 44.56 seconds that is Nord's personal best, and an NCAA Division II provisional time that ranks third nationally in the event.
Several other provisionals were scored during the day, beginning with
Peyton Weiss at the Bryan Clay. Weiss ran to a time of 2:09.64 in the women's 800m run, registering a personal best and a time that ranks 16th on the DII national performance list.
Two more provisional times were recorded in the early evening at the Bryan Clay, one each in the women's and men's 5,000m runs.
Lauren Willson finished in a personal best 16:37.68 for the 11th time on the women's DII list, and soon after
Esteban Reyes ran to a personal best of 14:15.60 that ranks ninth on the men's DII list.
In another career-best performance at the Bryan Clay,
Myia Dantzler sprinted to a PR of 11.68 seconds in the 100m dash, moving her up on Western's all-time list from No. 5 to No. 2.
Mountaineer runners competing on the Ortmayer Stadium Track at the University of La Verne also posted some personal best times.
Alissa Rall finished fifth in the women's 1,500m run with a PR of 4:39.34, and in the men's 1,500,
Nathan Lumaye hit a new PR with his fifth-place time of 3:57.56.
In one of the final events of the Leopard Invite, all three of Western's runners in the men's 5,000 hit new personal bests, including
Kellen Reed's first-place time of 14:15.60.
Branden Davis would place third with a time of 14:31.55, and
Aiden Wieskamp (25th) finished with a PR of 14:58.34.
The weekend trip to Southern California will conclude Saturday at Azusa Pacific at the Bryan Clay Invite.
